Jesus is Laid in the Tomb
THE FOURTEENTH STATION
Jesus is laid in the tomb.
We adore thee, O Christ, and we praise thee:
Because by thine holy cross, thou hast redeemed the world.
And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.(St. Matthew 27:59-60)
Kneel and Pause
I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.(Psalm 30:1-5)
Let us pray. Almighty and eternal God, on the edge of sadness when all seemed lost, thou didst restore to us the Saviour we thought defeated and conquered. Help us, we beseech thee, so to empty ourselves to self concern that we might see thy hand in every failure and thy victory in every defeat. These things we ask in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
