The Body of Jesus is Taken Down from the Cross
THE THIRTEENTH STATION
The body of Jesus is taken down from the cross.
We adore thee, O Christ, and we praise thee:
Because by thine holy cross, thou hast redeemed the world.
When the soldiers came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave.(St. John 19:33-34, 38a)
Kneel and Pause
O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. Then shall ye know that I am the Lord. O my people! I shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live. Then shall ye know that I the Lord have spoken it, and performed it, saith the Lord.(Ezekiel 37:12-14)
Let us pray. Beloved Saviour, thou didst return to the Father all that he had given thee, so that he might restore all to thee an hundred-fold in the glorious resurrection. Help us, we beseech thee, to give generously of ourselves in all that we do for thee, so that like thee we might be made perfect in a new resurrection. Amen.
