Jesus is Nailed to the Cross
THE ELEVENTH STATION
Jesus is nailed to the Cross.
We adore thee, O Christ, and we praise thee:
Because by thine holy cross, thou hast redeemed the world.
And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. (St. Luke 23:33-34)
Kneel and Pause
My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, also I take no rest. All my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws. They have pierced my hands and my feet; I may tell all my bones. (Psalm 22:1-2, 14b-15, 16b)
Let us pray. Lord and Saviour, thou hast told us that we too must accept crucifixion if we are to accept resurrection with thee. Help us to rejoice in the sufferings that come with the fulfillment of our daily duties, seeing in them the royal road of the cross to the resurrection. Amen.
